This bottle will make you smile just looking at the label. It’s a man with a plunger on his head…Plungerhead! Don’t let the label make you brush it aside, because it’s seriously a good wine! I made this one of my selections to bring for our Thanksgiving dinner and it wow’d everyone. Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi is a must have…find out why! It’s a wine of character, for characters.

Mike is one of Three Cork Night who loves wine as much as I do. His commentary for how to describe a wine is totally original, so I’m sure to take notes when I see him trying a wine I’m reviewing. For this Old Vine Zin, Mike’s comments included the following phrases…”jammy,” “full,” “tastes dark,” and “doesn’t poke.” My takeaway was that it was didn’t make you pucker with strong tannings and wasn’t tart in the least bit. This was a very bold, smooth wine that easily pairs with whatever you are serving.

The tasting notes say, “Our 2016 Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel holds a dark ruby color with aromas of brambly raspberry, fresh-from-the-oven cherry pie, cinnamon-infused tea, toasted cedar and clove. The flavors start with touches of Bing cherry, sweetened cranberry, raspberry jam, caramel and toasted coconut. The finish lingers with a medium body and notes of dried cranberry, Mexican vanilla and a round mouthfeel from American Oak aging.” Sounds like Mike was spot on with his “jammy” description!

TotalWine has this varietal in stock for only $11.99 (mix 6 and it goes down to $10.79)! This is a beyond perfect every day bottle to have on hand! For some holiday fun, Plungerhead is hosting a contest if you share an Eddie inspired holiday photo! I’ve put the instructions below and my entry!
