I love trying new Chardonnays and was recently sent an amazing bottle of Cuvaison 2017 Estate Chardonnay that did not disappoint! I enjoy learning about new wineries that create these masterpieces along with information about the winemakers when I’m discovering a new wine.

In 1979, Cuvaison was purchased by the Schmidheiny family who are Swiss fourth-generation vintners. I’m 50% Swiss, so this was even more of an awesome find! Nestled in beautiful Napa, Cuvaison has 400 acres in the Los Carneros region focusing on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (review coming soon!) and focus on small lot productions. Cuvaison has also been named by Wine & Spirits as one of the “Top 100 Wineries in the World.”

Let’s get to this Chardonnay that you all need to try! My first thoughts were that it was crisp with hints of pear and vanilla. Remember, I don’t read the tasting notes before I taste wines I review, so I thoroughly enjoy when I find I’m identifying what the winemaker did as well.

Winemaker, Steven Rogstad’s notes say, “A year of warmth and opulence, the 2017 Estate Chardonnay offers aromas of honeysuckle, jasmine, vanilla and clove spice. The honeyed aromatics give way to unctuous fruit tones of pear and peach, with lemony brightness that carries along the rich spice and toasty brioche notes. This is a rich, plush and pleasing Chardonnay balanced beautifully by oak and refreshing fruit tones.”

On our next trip to Napa, we’ll be making a visit to Cuvaison to do some wine tasting and view their beautiful grounds. They offer a happy hour tasting, a vineyard excursion, cheese pairing, and more.
