Wine Wednesday: Loos Family Pinot Noir

We are so lucky to live in a world with so many wine varieties, but it hit me the other day that I’m even luckier in that the Bay Area is filled with delicious wineries that I have yet to try. I came upon Loos Family Winery, one of the world’s smallest wineries and one of the best kept secrets!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on their 2013 Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands. This wine is handcrafted…meaning, the grapes are hand sorted, and each lot of wine is fermented in single barrels which yield no more than 300 bottles of wine per barrel. Each bottle is individually labeled and hand-numbered. I had bottle #192 out of 300.

The grapes for this bottle come from Doctor’s Vineyard and truly doesn’t disappoint. This was one of the smoothest Pinot Noirs I’ve ever had and was absolute perfection. I had dinner guests who were treated to this bottle as well and the consensus was that “the Loos Family knows what they’re doing.”

If you find yourself lucky enough to stumble upon a bottle of Loos Family wine, please jump on it and enjoy it! They have a tasting room in San Francisco (reservations required), a Wine Club, select restaurants and retail locations, or simply order a bottle or two directly from them! It retails for about $45 and is more than worth it.
