Mommyhood: Internet Safety Month

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

Did you know that June is Internet Safety Month? Let’s face it…the days in which we were young and had to use a rotary phone to call our friends are long gone. Now are the times of smartphones, the internet and this thing called social media. As a stepmom of two teenagers, I do indeed worry about everything they might encounter on the internet and for this very reason, The Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) and Sprint have put together a panel of teens from around the world to answers questions you, as adults and parents have to become more educated about your kids and teens online experiences.

Kids and teens now a days have access to the world by just using their fingertips…or their thumbs! Safety is a big concern but so is cyber bullying; a term that didn’t exist when we were their age. What do you do if you see your child being the victim of a cyber bully? What do you do if your child is the cyber bully? Is your child spending too much time on the internet? Should you restrict access to certain sites? These and so many more questions are being answered on CyberSafeFutures.org

It’s important to keep an open dialogue with your kids about the internet, social media, cyber bullying and so much more. By participating in BGCA and Sprint’s Cyber Safe Futures forum, you not only can educate yourself and help other parents and mentors become educated, but you can also help kids get the cyber safety they deserve. Find out what the risks and issues are that our kids are facing daily with all of this technology so readily available to them and keep them #CyberSafe.

I encourage you to submit questions to the BGCA Cyber Ambassadors regarding cyberbullying, social networking, online privacy, mobile smarts and other cyber-related issues. As an added bonus, everyone who submits a question will be entered to win one of three iPad minis and $500 to your BGCA club of choice! There’s nothing to lose and yet so much to gain!
