Wine Wednesday: Truvée Chardonnay & Rhône Style Red Blend

It’s my favorite day of the week…Wine Wednesday! This week I was lucky enough to not only experience two wines made by sisters, Robin and Andréa McBride called Truvée, but to also interview them. Truvée is French for “to find” and finding each other is exactly what Robin and Andréa did and I was lucky enough to find their wine.

Before I get to how fabulous this wine is, I want to give you the story behind Truvée. The McBride sisters didn’t always know one another…it was their father’s dying wish that they would finally know about each other. They were living on different continents, each raised by their own mother. Many years later, after meeting and discovering that they had a love for wine and everything about it in common, they created Truvée.

Starting with their Red Blend, it’s made from seven varietals: Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Petite Sirah. It’s a smooth berry flavor that your tastebuds instantly recognize. This wine is mellow without the bitey taste you might find in a red. It’s the absolute perfect blend of deliciousness.

Truvée chardonnay is also smooth, but created with buttery perfection. I’m a big fan of buttery and this goes above and beyond my expectations. I immediately noticed the pear, green apple and vanilla flavors. The delicateness of the pear is present from the first sip.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed both of these varietals and want to make sure I have them stocked at my house at all times. These would also make perfect gifts since the bottles and labels are so beautifully designed. If you aren’t sold on the wines already, then the fact that they are around $15 should really win you over. They’re worth every penny and then some!

It’s not every day you get to know the winemakers behind such a perfect product, but I got the chance to! Below is my interview with Robin and Andréa McBride.

– When did you actually learn of each other? (I know you met in 1999). What were your initial feelings? Did you ever think of the possibility of your relationship growing to what it is today?

We met in January of 1999 in NY (Laguardia airport to be exact!). It was hugely emotional for both of us, life changing of course. I don’t know that either of us could have predicted what our relationship would be in the future but we knew that from that day on we would have one that was unique and meaningful. I think that developing businesses together one day and maybe even making wine didn’t become a goal until later in our relationship.

– What was the first wine you shared together?

I believe that the first wine we shared was a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, pretty much where it all started for us!

– What is your favorite wine?

That’s almost impossible to answer, because we are in love with wine in general and there are so many brilliant wines around the world. But we can tell you that we are partial to NZ Sauvignon Blancs and Rhone style wines. Well, and Rieslings, and Roses…well you get the idea, we REALLY like wine!

– What is your favorite meal to pair with your favorite wine?

We love pairing our Truvée Red Blend with roasted chicken or herb-stuffed tenderloin. Our Chardonnay is also great paired with seared scallops or a light pasta tossed with vegetables.

– What are your hopes for the future? Buy a vineyard? Expand your product line?

Currently, our main focus is the successful launch of Truvée, including the Chardonnay and Red Blend varietals; however, we are always exploring new ways to bring additional tastes to life in the coming year.

– What is the most unique thing about Truvee that makes it stand out from other wines?

What makes Truvée unique is its authentic reflection of our signature style, creating a product that is approachable, yet sophisticated and beautifully packaged. Each bottle of wine has the McBride Sisters’ crest designed by us to capture the details of our story.

– Do you find that wine and wine lovers are the same universally or do they vary by country?

We find that every wine lover is different from the next, no matter where they are in the world. Each country tends to have certain wines that they favor but for the most part wine lovers tend to move through stages of experimentation and appreciation of the art of wine and that is universal.
