I have some friends who just introduced me to Renwood Winery, located in Plymouth, California about 2 hours northeast of San Jose and I’m so glad they did! We recently tried their 2013 Premier Old Vine Zinfandel and couldn’t give it more rave reviews.
This wine had a great structure, clean finish and was beautifully balanced. It was a smooth, classic Zin with a hint of pepper, nice spice and dark berry flavors. It’s an Amador Zinfandel that reminds one of a Sonoma Zinfandel. Winemaker, Joe Shebl offers, “Comprised entirely of Zinfandel, the 2013 Premier Old Vine Zinfandel is beautiful and dark, with glints of ruby red. Blended from 50 individual lots of Old Vine Zinfandel and aged 16 months in the finest French oak, the resulting wine is intriguing and sumptuous. Chocolate, raspberry and vanilla bean greet you on the nose, followed by bright red fruit flavors. Both powerful and refined, the finesse of this wine makes it perfect for an every day sip, or a special meal. An opulent wine, enjoy now and for the next 3-5 years.”
This wine comes at the reasonable price of $20 per bottle which is definitely worth it. It’s a great wine to enjoy at home or one that will impress a host or hostess as a gift. Don’t forget Christmas is right around the corner!
